Period 3 / 3-D / Grading of projects & journals
Students are to record in notebooks first before creatively adding to the journal. I have noticed that the students tend to write in pencil and write really small. They have the option to take notes in a spiral notebook and then transfer information to their journal. Teacher is trying to encourage them to write with marker or pen so there is less smear and entry appears clearer.
Teacher was having students come up to the desk to grade journal and wire sculptures. He also told students he was posting vocabulary words on Edmodo and if they were in their journal by Friday they would get 20 points. They also need to research wind chimes and do some thumbnails for their next project. In their journals needed to have pictures of insects, sketches, and writing that is in-depth into their thoughts about what they were doing for their project and why? It is the writing that is important.
Journals must have heading on each page and the date in the upper right corner and the page numbers in the lower right. Must have 3 thumbnails and pic of insect from research. Advanced 3-D student had done a wire sculpture of a dragon using silver wire which was really well done. Can use colored pencils. Explain self. Write out the requirements. When completely done will photograph wire sculptures for portfolios. Always ask if you have a question. Lots of blank spaces, fill the pages. I noticed lots of small itty, bitty writing. One student actually filled the page with the sketch of a bug with her written notes on the opposite page. It is not about decorating it is about the information.
New project - wind chime, find a theme. Will have 6-8 hanging pieces with a center piece. All pieces are to be made from clay.
Period 4 / Pre-IB 9th / Shading/Composition Project
Due at the end of class tomorrow. Rubric - shading with no outline of objects, direction of light source, composition, use side of pencil, blend away negative space, blend it. Think about composition and the movement in the piece. Work on shading. Turn pencil in the pencil sharpener when sharpening.
